Movers and Shakers

July 18, 2015: Mover and Shaker:  Ndumiso "The Roosta" Lindi - BIO

Known for his unusual pseudonym (The Roosta), his lucky fedora hat and his brilliant impersonation of the Madiba jive; Lindi is regarded as one of South Africa's leading comedians. Ndumiso Lindi, a name that first resounded through the streets of a small township in the Eastern Cape (King William's Tonw) called Zwelitsha (in Zone 10), has now become a household name with newly credited international acclaim.

Growing up Ndumiso had always known he had a 'funny streak' in his DNA, when he discovered that he could relate to the undisputed talents of comedic legends Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and Bill Cosby. In 2004 while studying towards his National Diploma in Design, he took to the stage for the very first time during the Vodacom Comedy Campus Tour. With just three minutes to prove his worth, he captivated the crowd and from that courageous moment he got a chance to work with the Comedy Allstars at the Celebrated Armchair Theatre in Cape Town. Hot on the trail of success he later went on to feature in the RedBull Comedy AllStar's Challenge at which he won at the 'The Best Newcomer' category.

With the comedic fever fast infusing in his veins, Ndumiso Lindi left his bright Advertising career in Cape Town

to ‘chase the dream’ in Johannesburg. Since then, he's honed in on his skills, nurtured his talent and

subsequently toured the country performing at the Blacks Only Comedy Festival; 46664 It’s No Joke Series;

Bafunny Bafunny Series; Mass Hysteria Tour and now LNN (Late Night News with Loyiso Gola). These

performances have seen him share the stage and collaborate with local and international industry heavyweights

like Riaad Moosa, Mark Lottering; David Kau; Basket Mouth; Capone and Mark Curry a.k.a Mr Cooper.

In August 2011 Ndumiso took his act on the road with his astoundingly successful One Man Show "Here I Stand"

which was later upgraded to "Colour Mine". “Colour Mine” was immortalized via DVD, captured Live at the Lyric

Theatre in Gold Reef. It was also aired on DSTV’s Comedy Central in 2012/13 where it garnered top ratings and

great reviews.

Ndumiso has his One Man Show named “Diluted People” on the 25th July 2015 at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef

City which was well received by the public

Ndumiso's material focuses on everyday life and the diversity of South African Cultures, unique and peculiar

observations of each culture/clan and how the younger generation interacts with their various cultures. Audiences

are treated to a comic journey of everyday life through the eyes of a young, black, South African male mind.

Since then, Ndumiso has elevated his brand by taking his act abroad, first conquering various African countries

including regular appearances at festivals in Nigeria and Ghana. In 2013 he toured with The African Kings of

Comedy in Nigeria and London. Over and above this he became the face of pizza brand Debonairs’ TV ad

campaign; which involved a series of ads featuring various “AmaZing” Pizza chefs and celebrities. Ndumiso also

regularly MC’s corporate and private functions and has become quite thee sought after act.
